Information for Homeschool Parents in the Brainerd School District

Under state law, Brainerd Public Schools is required to ensure that all school-age children residing within the district’s boundaries receive an education. The district’s primary role is to be certain that all Home Schools comply with state law and to provide the necessary information and forms to each Home School for compliance. For specific homeschool questions and to check out requirements, visit the Minnesota Department of Education website. If you determine home-schooling is the best option for your student, please complete the Compulsory Instruction Report (CIR) or the Letter of Intent to Continue Homeschooling and submit it to Brainerd Public Schools by October 1.

  • For first-time home-schooled students, Pupil Immunization Record and Testing Information are also required when submitting your Non-accredited, Nonpublic School Full Report.
  • For home school students previously reported to the district, please submit a Letter of Intent to Continue Homeschooling. If you wish to participate in the MDE nonpublic pupil aids program, you must request the Student Report for Aids to Nonpublic Students form from the District’s Home School Liaison (email or call), and complete (signed on or before September 15).
    • Return all forms to the Brainerd Learning Center by October 1. The Minnesota Department of Education sets deadlines for returning all forms to the School District.
